I paint in oils, acrylics and watercolour, and draw in graphite, ink and pastel, enjoying the contest between reality and imagination. My mixed media collages draw on all these. My life as a scientist instilled an enduring interest in the natural world.

There is great pleasure in landscape and I am inspired by local places and those visited while walking here and abroad. I paint on location, but generally prefer a studio using sketches and photographs, and memory, to develop the work. Painting in monochrome or black and white, is great for developing mood, and is a theme I follow in drawing and printmaking
