Ceramics

The ceramicist José Carvalho was born in Vizela in the north of Portugal and moved to London in 2006. His work covers a wide range of decorative and functional pieces with great influence from the Japanese culture. He explores the recycling of materials together with the volcanic glazes and oxides that give their shapes a simple and organic style.

In 2017, José won two awards, one for Best Use of Surface and Glaze by Ceramic Review magazine and Best in Show by the choice of visitors.

José has exhibited his work in several locations in London, including Hepsibah Gallery, Chelsea Physic Gardens, the Ice House Gallery and Otomys Contemporary Gallery.

His work has been acquired by collectors internationally and can be seen in several spaces, including Heckfield Place, Soho House, Es Bec d'Aguila.

José's pieces have been used by architects Conran & Partners, Molteni & C Dada and Colefax & Fowler have recently collaborated with designers including Ben Thompson.

José's work has been well-received by critics and collectors and published in several magazines worldwide.
