Painting, photography

Artistic creation is a process that confronts itself daily. Both formal and conceptual characteristics evolve and materialize in different ways depending on cultural contexts. When these cultural contexts change frequently, they cause changes and instability in the people involved, who need time to return to stability.

After traveling and living in different countries and local contexts, some kind of voids and difficulties in creating have somehow emerged. Not only because of the challenges of folding, unfolding, and relating each time one arrives at or departs from a place, but also because of all the effort the body must make to close one door, open a new one, and start from scratch.

Thus, after having walked hand in hand with some French authors who have conveyed lines of inspiration and reflection that I have shaped in different ways, I have begun a stage in which it seemed important to me to try to reflect on the virtues of being, and to reflect on them both in a local context and on a personal level.

During my stay in Ghana (2017) for 10 months, where I carried out intensive work on FORTITUDE, which culminated in a brief 10-hour exhibition, allowing me in some way to present the work to the public and local context to which this creation belongs and to close one cycle to begin another.

In the Philippines (2018), a new cycle was opened, trying to explore what happens when a body has had a lot of movement and presents difficulties in stabilization and adaptation. Through TEMPERANCE, I tried to find a balance between movement and rest, and in this way obtain harmonious stability.

In France (2022), PRUDENCE was a literal walk through forests and places surrounded by nature, which allowed me to understand that our human values must be part of a continuous and current reflection to become better people.

JUSTICE is the fourth and final cardinal virtue I am working on, and perhaps the most difficult to address, given that justice is such an overused word nowadays. How can one speak of Justice in the singular universe of an artist?

To speak of JUSTICE or through it, I have begun creating a series of paintings called “positive invocations” or “Just Causes.”

These positive invocations are cathartic processes where all that heavy energy from everyday information that overwhelms us through every medium is transformed by me through a creative and therapeutic process in which I try to release and transform what has accumulated, and it emerges in a different way through fluid gestures and colour.

These paintings are containers of different intensities of energy that flow, converge, and present themselves to the public as installations, inviting the viewer to have an immersive and sensory experience.

My reflective intentions through the cardinal virtues arose with the purpose of reflecting on who we are currently and what we can contribute to our environment so that our life experiences are more fruitful and positive.

ANANSE Character from Akan Popular Tales
Photography 70 x 40 cm
Ghana, 2017 Ananse is a cultural hero who acts alongside his father Nyame, the Sky God. Indeed, Ananse often presents himself as an intermediary between his father and the world. He brings rain to put out fires and performs other tasks on his behalf. According to some beliefs, Ananse is the creator of the Sun, the stars, and the Moon. He is said to have taught agriculture techniques to Humanity. (WIKIPEDIA) In 2017, when I was living in Ghana, I had the chance to meet Casablanca, a man who transformed into Ananse in his musical performances. ABAJO (the musicians' house in Accra) became a place of exchange, and the idiosyncrasy of the Ghanaians inspired me in my creative research.
