Drawing, mixed media, painting

I'm delighted to be part of Artists At Home this year, exhibiting a selection of my recent work kindly hosted by Hamish Pringle.

Colour and light have always been at the heart of the subjects that I am drawn to. A familiarity that comes with a subject whether it is landscape, interiors or still life are very important to me. The more a location is understood through drawing and painting, the more possibilities make themselves available to explore visually.

For this year, I will also be showing a number of my experimental pieces which use mixed media, exploring watercolour in a completely different way for me.

Born in Chiswick. Studied at St Martin's School of Art. Member of the Royal Watercolour Society since 1986 and past President 2000-03. Elected to the New English Art Club in 1992. Invited by Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, as a war artist, 2013. He won the Turner Award for a picture of Camp Bastion in 2014.

His paintings of children on the beach at Walberswick, Suffolk, and interiors of Parisian restaurants, and atmospheric studies of his studio interior create a lively vibrancy that has enchanted the public and buyers at each exhibition. He has recently been experimenting with paper to create abstract and 3D images.
